KINGS DAY OUT!!!
Philip Luchiemo

It was all smiles for the men on Saturday the 26th of May.The Youth Church had set aside a wonderful day for them to bond, feast, learn about how to be responsible, humble, unique and how to continually desire to walk in God’s presence . . . in a nutshell – how to become REAL MEN. The Missionary buses picked them from church and GPO in town  respectively, as early as 9am, to take them to the magnificent Wonderland which is quite the landmark in Mombasa road. The retreat kicked off with a breath taking tour of the vicinity as the Kings appreciated the state of the art architecture and hard labour put into the beautiful project.

Next on schedule was Work! Work! Work! For we all know that those who do not work should not eat.

The Kings located an area underneath an acacia tree and slashed and raked the wild grass around it, which had grown way above knee length.

The well-built handled the cooking of ugali as well as the slaughter in which 3 goats lost dear life hahaha. The food was abundant as tomatoes, carrots, onions, potatoes, cucumbers – to name but a few, filled the basins, bowls and sufurias when they were sliced, diced, chopped and peeled.

Let it be known to the Queens that it is not only them that can cook because the Kings showcased their different skills in the kitchen, various groups handling their forte . . . even our dearly beloved Pastor Favour personally rolled up the sleeves of his very expensive designer shirt and orchestrated the preparation of the day’s “mutura” which left mouths watering as it enticingly sizzled on the grills.

In the meanwhile, Meshack alias Mc Jino Moja presided over an entertaining freestyle rap battle which saw the hood of Zambezi emerge victors and take home a prized bottle of sprite through their lyrically talented representative who “out-rapped” those who repped’ the hoods of Karen, Lower Kabete and Kilimani.
By around 4pm the food was ready and thus, preceded by a prayer from Mc Jesse, the Kings graciously manifested upon the ugali, stew, “mutura”, sodas and of course the nyama choma! Besides feasting and merry making, it was clear that the men also did learn a lot from the retreat as they portrayed responsibility and humility (some of the key qualities of real men) when they cleaned the dishes and even the buses.

Pastor Favor then closed the day with a few enlightening words of wisdom as he also led the Kings in thanksgiving and prayer. Lastly, it was agreed upon to surprise the Queens with a small token of appreciation on Sunday since it is them who spice and light up a King’s life.

Afterwards, as the Kings were dropped off, joy and happiness galore was evidently inscribed on their glorious faces . . . indeed it was an educative and fun packed day for them!
